No other canyon in North America combines the depth, narrowness, and steepness of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado. The National Park conatins the deepest 14 miles of the 48-mile long canyon. The canyon's name comes from the fact that because of it's narrowness and steepness, little light can penitrate it's depth.
