Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure which uses a person's weight and height
to estimate their amount of body fat. The formula that was developed in 1869 by
the Belgian mathematician Adolphe Quetelet. BMI is calculated by dividing your
weight by your height squared. A person with a BMI of 26 or higher is believed to
have enough body fat to be a health risk. A person with a BMI of 30 and higher
is considered obese. The higher the BMI is above 26, the greater the risk of
developing health problems.
