Good children's books, especially for younger kids, need interesting pictures. That's where an illustrator comes in. Children's writing always offers an illustrator lots of ideas for things to illustrate. This article show you how to create illustrations for a children's book.

Draw some thumbnail sketches

1. Start by drawing some thumbnail sketches based on the story.

Sketch the characters

2. Sketch the characters appearances with study sketches. You can use these as references throughout the whole illustration process.

3. Resize the sketches to your target size and add any extra details you want to put in the illustration.

Make a carbon copy of the sketch

4. Next, to make a "carbon copy" of the sketch by turning it over and rubbing the entire back with charcoal.
