How Blogging Can Increase Your Online Business Success

Blogging is a relatively recent phenomena that is continuing to grow in popularity among the online business world. Everyday, more and more internet businesses are beginning to realize the power of blogs and how they can positively impact their business success.

So, why are blogs becoming so popular? First of all they are an easy way for anyone with an internet connection to develop a website instantly for free. They are usually surrounded by a community or 'blogosphere' that shares similar interests and thus are a great way to network and develop friends and business partners.

Most people that read blogs, read them because they are a great way to get your thoughts out and share them with anyone instantly. Blogs are also highly search engine friendly, since they are being updated regularly with fresh new content, the search engines are prone to visiting them regularly. This means that if you have a blog that you are adding valuable, useful content to on a regular basis then the search engines will most likely be visiting your blogs on a regular basis also.

This also means that the search engines are going to visit the links on your blogs also. So if you link to your main business site then this is a great way to have search engines visit your site and potentially get the pages in your site indexed. If you host your blogs on Blogger, which happens to be owned by Google, then you will probably be getting frequent visits by Googlebot, so just make sure your main site is properly optimized for Googlebot's visits.

I recommend submitting a sitemap to Google and also verifying your site with google so you can access the information they have about your site. Just visit Google Webmaster Central to get the details on how to do this.

Make sure you promote the rss (really simple syndication) feed for your blog. This is a great way to attract more visitors to your blog. Submit your feed to as many sites as possible, start with Yahoo at Yahoo Publisher's Guide to RSS and keep looking for other highly trafficked sources to add your feeds to.

It goes without saying that the content of your blogs need to be relevant and up to date. Unfortunately there are many who add blogs just for the sake of getting their main sites visited by the search engines using automated software. Please do not do this as it gives the blogging community a bad name.

Monetizing your blogs is a great way of increasing your income. Add google adsense to your blogs. Google adsense is a program run by Google which allows webmasters to place ads on their site served by Google which then if clicked by one of your visitors will give you a percentage of the income per click. This amount usually varies from $0.02 all the way to $5 for highly competitive keyword terms.
