How to Make Money Selling on eBay - Who Should You Listen To?
by Bob Hamilton
Have you noticed all of the offers of mentoring regarding how to make money selling on
eBay that are being offered right now? There have been so many during the last few weeks
that it's easy to lose track of them all. Some have been for as little $100, while others
have gone into the many thousands of dollars. And then there are all of the FREE and
FOR-A-PRICE Guides, Reports and e-Books. So what are you to do if you know that you could
benefit from help, yet receive so many offers?
Let's start by examining guides that are available for purchase. The advantage of
guides is that they are typically fairly low-cost. Have you ever received an e-book,
report or guide and then felt like you weren't getting the whole story? How can you be
sure that the information is good, tried, tested and complete?
I recently received a letter that was filled with marketing questions from a reader of
one of our newsletters. The reader was absolutely, positively overwhelmed with information
overload. In fact she was so overloaded that she had become totally lost. She didn't know
who to believe. She didn't know what to believe. She was to the point that she didn't know
what to do, in what order, and exactly how to do each of the critical steps to
successfully start and operate her business.
This was a reader who I could truly relate with. I've been there too! So much
information; often with conflicting (or at least varied) recommendations. In fact, many
start by saying to forget everything you have learned! Read their information, listen to
their audios or videos, and then apply what they say to achieve true success.
If you are a newbie, or if you have had trouble getting traction in your online
business, I am here to tell you that I disagree! Do not unlearn everything every time a
new idea is presented.
Some guidelines:
o The more spent on a product, the higher the quality if that product. This is a
general rule. Exceptions can be made for authors and marketer who have a positive track
record of delivering high-quality products.
o Products that come with guarantees are generally of higher quality. If an author or
marketer is willing to stand behind a product, it is more likely that it will be worth purchasing.
o No single product or service provides the ultimate solution to all problems. The
world of eBay marketing is gigantic. There are many pieces to the puzzle, and it would
take volumes of information to really cover every step.
o Products deliver more when you understand what help is needed. One of the gurus told
me that he reads 100's of books every year. He feels that he needs to read at every
opportunity to stay aware of all of the details associated with his specialty. I won't hit
100's of books this year, but I will come lose to 100. What happens as I read is that
everything becomes clearer. That includes everything I do know, as well as everything that
I don't know.
o Unless there is a specific need, pick a limited number of experts and newsletters and
stick with them. (An exception may be if you operate multiple websites, write multiple
newsletters, or if you are working to stay ahead of the pack on current products in the
marketplace.) By limiting the number of ideas that you receive, you limit that variety of
ideas and inputs that you receive. You can then focus on a specific direction. Rather than
making radical changes, you will be able to make fine adjustments to the course that you
have set for your business.
Those who know how to make money selling on eBay AND share their knowledge are hard to
find. When you locate someone who knows the marketplace and who will share the nitty
gritty details for success, stay with them.
