Design and Sell Your Own Bobble Head
By Melanie Green
No one can question the popularity of bobble heads. But we've never really put
much thought on the design process. We just choose from the available figurines on the market.
If we don't like the design of the bobble head, we just choose to wait for the next batch of
custom dolls to come out.
But that doesn't give us a lot of freedom in having the dolls that we want. While looking
at the available ones, I'm sure there's a time or two when we wished for more available designs.
So why not create your freedom by going into bobble head designing?
The industry of custom bobble heads is very promising. While it's true that you'll need
a lot of resources to manufacture your own dolls, you don't need a lot to make them. All you
need is a design and industry experts can help you with the rest. That's the beauty of it.
They welcome new players in the market, by helping them out.
So what do you need in order to come up with a design? Designs patterned after humans
is probably the most popular. A lot of popular personalities, business owners and the like
want to have one patterned after them. No one can blame them. Using bobble head dolls to market
or promote them or their business is one of the most effective ways to get it done. But in
order for it to be effective, you should do it right. For you to do it right, the pattern should
be perfect or at least close to it.
If you want to make one after yourself, you don't need to pose in front of the designers
to get the design. You can just use a front and back picture of yourself. For accuracy, you
can also send your measurements. The custom design team would then send you a sketch of proposed
design. A good manufacturer should send as many sketches as he can until you find the perfect
one. The first sketch would normally be black and white. Once approved, they'll send you a
colored sketch for you to have an idea on how the final product's going to look like.
A good manufacturer will actually take it one step further by turning the approved sketch
into a 3D clay model. This is the closest you can get in terms of a bobble head prototype.
The manufacturer would then send you photographs of the prototype taken from all angles. This
will give you a chance to make final changes.
Once you've approved of the final design for your custom design, it's now time for you
to sit back and relax. You've done your job as the "designer" and you will then leave the manufacturing
to the experts. They'll ship it to you packed safely in a box and then you can reap the rewards
of the profitable partnership between you and the manufacturer.
