Social Site Marketing

In order for people to purchase your information product, they need to know that it exists.
You can't rely on search engines to generate traffic to your sales page. Today the most popular
way to promote any product is by using social sites. A social site is a web site designed
specifically for people to communicate with each other, or to "socialize". The most popular
social sites are Facebook and Twitter.
Facebook
There are several different types of pages that you can setup on Facebook, a personal
page, a business page, or a fan page. To promote your information product, you might think
that you would setup a business page, but business pages have several disadvantages compared
to personal pages and fan pages. The best type of page to set up to promote your information
product is a fan page. You can create a fan page for free.
To setup your fan page you'll have to setup a Facebook account with username and password.
After you have setup an account, click on the settings gear on the top far right corner of
the page. In the menu that appears, click on "Advertising". Under "Step 1: Build Your Facebook
Page" click on the type of page you'd like to create, select "Brand or product".
The purpose of your fan page is to share information about your information product.
Facebook has over 1.23 billion monthly active users. Your goal is to get “fans”. How do you
get Facebook fans? you post useful articles and links to relevant information related to the
subject of your information product. Make your fan page a resource where people can come and
get information about subject of your information product and learn how to purchase your
information product.
Twitter
Twitter is a free social site where people post short 140 character messages called "tweets".
Twitter has 288 million monthly active users. To create a Twitter account go to the homepage
and click "Sign up for Twitter." You'll need to provide your name, email address, password,
and a less than than 15 characters long username.
Next you'll need to create your profile. To create your profile you'll need to upload
your profile picture. Click on the empty profile photo to upload an image of yourself. Then
click on the area below your profile photo where you can enter a 160 characters or less bio
about yourself.
After you setup your profile you can begin tweeting. Since your tweet has a 140 character
limit you'll want to create a message with a few keywords and a link to a larger article. Your
goal is to build a base of "followers". When twitter users search with one of your keywords
they'll be taken to your page, where they may click to "follow" you. Another way to gain followers
is to follow others, which encourages them to follow you back.
You can't rely on search engines to generate traffic to your sales page. Traditional
advertising is costly and unreliable. Marketing with social sites like Facebook and Twitter
may be the best way to promote your information product.
