There are a variety of demons holding the majority of would-be online entrepreneurs
from a "life on the wire". Some are old demonds - troublemakers that have plagued would-be
entrepreneurs since long before there was the Intenet. Others are new demons - ones
that have been brought to life by the very nature of the Internet.
Every one of these demons can be beaten. In this section we are going to address
these demons, learn how to avoid or escape their detrimental grasp, and get prepared
to banish them forever. Now before we go on to the Clockwork Practices that will help
you beat the demons, lets meet the demons.
The Fear of Failure Demon
This is one of the biggest and strongest demons that anyone attempting any venture -
online or offline, business or personal - will have to face. It is also one of those
demons that prevents many from ever even starting their own venture. This is one
of the first demons you'll have to tackle.
The fear of failure is closely linked to the fear of criticism. After all, nobody
wants to be seen as a failure, and hearing your frinds mouth platitudes like, "We all
learn from mistakes." and "You can't win them all," really doesn't help ease the blow.
Some may receive a measure of motivation and comfort from pinning up famous quotations
- such as Robert H. Schuller's, "Failure doesn't mean you are a failure ... it just
means you haven't succeeded yet."; Henry Ford's "Failure is simply the opportunity to
begin again, this time more intelligently."; or Zig Ziglar's, "Failure is a detour,
not a dead-end street." However, these only blunt the pain of failure - they do not
provide a solution to help you avoid the demon.
Much more helpful would be to follow the advice of the famous motivational speaker
Jim Rohn: "failure is not a single, cataclysmic event. You don't fail overnight.
Instead, failure is a few errors in judgement, repeated every day." Remove those
errors, and instead of futilely attempting to get a measure of comfort from quotations
and banish the Fear of failure demon to a far away place, where it can no longer
hold you back.
How do you remove these errors in judgement? How do you ensure success in your
venture? Have a plan in place and use Clockwork Practices to stick to yuor plan.
Many errors in judgement are brought on by some of the following demons, and
using the Clockwork Practices to banish those demons will keep you on track with
your plan - and on track to success.
